Privacy policy

This policy explains which personal data Quiosque Europeu processes, for what purposes, on what legal basis and for how long, and how you can exercise your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Portuguese law.

1. Data controller

Quiosque Europeu (quiosqueeuropeu.com) is a project of Better Skills (www.better-skills.com), which is the data controller. For any privacy question, contact geral@quiosqueeuropeu.com.

2. What data we process

We only process what is strictly necessary:

  • Newsletter: your email address, the chosen language (Portuguese or English), the date and time of your request, confirmation and, where applicable, cancellation, and the area of the site where you signed up.
  • Email contact: the data you send us when you write to our contact address.
  • Technical data: for security and operation, the hosting provider logs data such as IP address, browser type and requested pages.

We do not ask for your name, address, phone number or payment details, and we do not process special categories of data.

3. Purposes and legal bases

  • Sending the daily newsletter, based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), given through double opt-in: you only start receiving it after confirming your address via the link sent by email.
  • Replying to messages you send us, based on your request and our legitimate interest in answering.
  • Keeping the site secure and working and preventing abuse, based on our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it or share it with third parties for commercial purposes, and we do not make automated decisions with legal effects on you.

4. Retention

  • Confirmed subscriptions: for as long as you remain subscribed.
  • Unconfirmed sign-up requests: deleted after 30 days.
  • Cancelled subscriptions: the address is deleted 30 days after cancellation.
  • Contact messages: as long as needed to reply and at most 12 months.
  • Hosting technical logs: for the period set by the provider, usually a few days.

5. Who processes data on our behalf

We use service providers that process data only on our instructions, under data processing agreements:

  • Email delivery (newsletter and confirmation messages), processed in the European Union.
  • The database storing subscriptions, hosted in the European Union.
  • Hosting and delivery of the site through a global distribution network.

Some of these providers are companies based in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, this is done with the safeguards provided for in the GDPR, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

6. Cookies and browser storage

Quiosque Europeu does not use advertising or tracking cookies and does not share your browsing with ad networks.

For features you choose to use, the site stores information only in your own browser: the papers marked in “My newspapers”, the countries chosen in the filter and, if you install the app, a copy of the last pages visited for offline reading. This information is not sent to us and you can delete it at any time in your browser settings.

7. Third-party content

Front page images are loaded directly from the sources where they are published. When you view a front page, your browser connects to those sites, which may log your IP address under their own policies. Links to newspaper websites take you to third-party sites with their own privacy policies.

8. Your rights

At any time you can:

  • access your data and obtain a copy;
  • ask for inaccurate data to be corrected;
  • ask for your data to be erased;
  • object to or ask to restrict the processing;
  • ask for data portability;
  • withdraw consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

To stop the newsletter, use the “Unsubscribe” link included in every email. For other requests, write to geral@quiosqueeuropeu.com. We reply within one month at the latest.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Portuguese data protection authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD), at www.cnpd.pt.

9. Security

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted database access and unique random confirmation and unsubscribe links.

10. Children

Quiosque Europeu is not intended for children under 16 and does not knowingly collect their data. If you become aware of a sign-up by a minor, contact us so we can delete it.

11. Changes

This policy may be updated. The date of the last update is shown at the top. If changes are relevant to subscribers, we will notify them by email.
